Is the Government Shutdown and Debt Ceiling effecting your business?

October, 2013: If your company is based in the USA and you export the parts/products you manufacture to Mexico or Canada like we do, you will need the Schedule B Number for each item classification to complete a Certificate of Origin for every shipment. The Schedule B Number is also needed to import into the USA. But if you went to the government website for the codes, the website was not working. However if you went to update your registration as a government contractor to the S.A.M. portal it was working. Or if you went to log into the special website for government contractor invoicing; Wide Area Work Flow system, it was working too. Why is that?

Is our Congress working to help manufacturers?

Well it seems some departments of the U.S. government get more of an exception to the shutdown and some dont. Almost anything related to the Military, such as SAM and WAWF, is mostly exempt. Some other departments were reopened after Congress allocated money to grant them an exception too. Should all this worry you? Do you export? Do you manufacture components for the U.S. Miltary or other government agency? Does the U.S. Government owe you or your company money? Is payment for your invoice on hold? Is yes, then for how long? Perhaps, if you think about it, your manufacturing company relies on the US Government in many more ways than you may first realize. We have only discussed a few government agencies here. Maybe now is a good time for U.S. manufactures to call their Congressman and tell them our concerns.

A list of US Government agencies reported as being on partial shutdown that may effect some U.S. manufacturers:
