General Purpose 90 degree Press Brake Punches and Dies - scroll down this page
Commonly used for forming 90 degree bends. Forming bends greater than 90 degrees is also practical by air bending. The depth stops of your press brake ram should be adjusted to limit the depth of punch travel into the die to obtain the desired bend angle and avoid bottoming out (to reduce wear).

Acute Dies are the most universal type of press brake dies. Recommended as a starter set. Make air-form bends from 30 degree to shallow bends, and also for first operation set in hemming.

Options:
* Hook Tongue: recommended when using a segmented punch in press brakes designed for hooked tongue tooling.
* Flame Hardening: recommended where extra durability and wear life is needed (such as for bending stainless steel).
* Polishing: recommended when bending pretty metal that requires minimum marking (without using urethane strips).
* Die Holder, Riser Block, 3-way or 4-way Bottom Die (call 773-334-5000 for pricing)

Note: Using wider dies than necessary can decrease the tonnage required to make a bend. The disadvantage of using wider dies is that the minimum size flange you can bend up becomes larger and so does the inside radius.

A combination of the Number 1 Punch and the Number 2 Die is the most commonly used in industry for forming 90 degree bends. Forming bends greater than 90 degrees is also practical by air bending. The press brake ram is adjusted to limit the depth of punch travel into the die to obtain the desired angle.
To increase the life of your tooling, avoid bottoming the top die in the bottom die.

Relief on sides of Number 1A Punch permits closer back gauge clearance and longer returns than are possible with a Number 1 Punch. Load is on punch shoulders, not on ram slot as in dies without shoulders. This punch is useful for forming up to 14 gauge with Number 2 Dies of 1/4" through 5/8" openings.

A Number 3 Punch and a Number 4 Die are used to produce 90° bends in heavy gauge metals or plate. Most forming in this category is performed by air bending, in order to keep press brake tonnage capacities to a minimum and to prevent material fracture. The inside radius of the resulting bends will be equal to, or greater than the material thickness indicated with the different dies.

For bending steel thicker than 10 gauge, we normally supply the punch & die with an angle of 85 degrees to compensate for metal springback unless you tell us otherwise.
